CVE-2026-9698 is an out-of-bounds write vulnerability in Perl DBI affecting versions before 1.648. DBI stored certain error messages in a fixed-size 200-byte buffer during error handling, and when RaiseError, PrintError, or HandleError were enabled, error text was written without proper length checking. If an attacker could influence the contents of the resulting error message in an application using DBI, the unchecked write could overflow the buffer and corrupt memory. The issue was fixed in DBI 1.648.
