CVE-2026-9704 is a privilege escalation vulnerability in Keycloak's token exchange handling. An authenticated low-privilege user can submit an oversized subject_token JSON Web Token to the TokenEndpoint. When the supplied token exceeds an internal 4000-character limit, the subject_token is silently discarded instead of being rejected, and processing falls back to client credentials. As a result, the exchange can be evaluated using the client's service account context rather than the original low-privilege user context, allowing the requester to obtain permissions associated with the client service account. The flaw is rooted in improper validation and unsafe fallback behavior during token exchange processing.
