Crypto24 is a ransomware operation that emerged in late 2023 and became publicly visible in 2024. It targets large enterprises across Asia, Europe, and North America, with reported victims in sectors including financial services, manufacturing, entertainment, technology, healthcare, legal services, and information and communications technology. The group conducts encryption-backed extortion and has also been associated with data theft and double extortion. Crypto24 is notable for combining living-off-the-land activity with custom tooling. Reported tradecraft includes reconnaissance with native Windows utilities, account and group enumeration, privilege escalation through administrator-group manipulation and UAC bypass, persistence via scheduled tasks and Windows services, and lateral movement using remote execution tools, RDP enablement, and network scanning. The group has also been linked to a persistent keylogging component and to exfiltration of stolen data to cloud storage services. A distinguishing feature of Crypto24 operations is aggressive defense evasion. The group has been observed using a customized variant of RealBlindingEDR to disable endpoint security products by tampering with kernel-level callbacks, and reporting also links its activity to administrator-level abuse of legitimate utilities to remove or weaken endpoint protections. This places Crypto24 among ransomware actors that use kernel-level or driver-assisted techniques to suppress telemetry before encryption and extortion. Reported malware characteristics include obfuscation and anti-analysis protections, use of custom services masquerading as legitimate Windows components, deletion of shadow copies, and cleanup behavior intended to reduce forensic visibility. Known aliases are limited, and no distinct sub-groups are established at high confidence.

A coordinated ransomware operation conducting double-extortion attacks against large enterprises. Operators establish privileged persistence, conduct reconnaissance and credential harvesting, move laterally through remote administration services, disable endpoint protections, exfiltrate data to Google Drive, and encrypt files with the .crypto24 extension.
Secondary-tier ransomware actor observed targeting Chinese organizations.
Crypto24 is a ransomware group targeting healthcare organizations, exfiltrating large volumes of patient data and using leak sites for extortion.
Ransomware operation targeting large enterprises with stealthy, off-hours intrusions; uses living-off-the-land plus custom tooling to disable EDR, establishes persistence via scheduled tasks and svchost-hosted services, performs credential theft via keylogging, enables/uses RDP and PsExec for lateral movement, exfiltrates data (including via Google Drive) and conducts double-extortion alongside file encryption.
