Lyceum, also known as Siamese Kitten and tracked in some reporting as Yellow Dev 9, is an Iran-based espionage threat actor. The group has been associated with campaigns targeting the telecommunications and aviation sectors in Africa, with operations relying heavily on social engineering, including outreach over LinkedIn and recruitment-themed lures impersonating information technology companies. Lyceum has used custom malware, including the Milan and Shark backdoors, and has operated command-and-control over both HTTP and DNS channels. The actor’s tradecraft is consistent with targeted cyber espionage focused on gaining access to organizations of strategic interest, maintaining footholds, and conducting post-compromise collection and exfiltration.
