LockBit, also tracked here as Flighty Scorpius, is a prolific ransomware threat actor associated with the LockBit ransomware operation, including LockBit 3.0. The group remained active in 2024 despite major law-enforcement disruption, including a February 2024 takedown of its infrastructure. Following that disruption, the actor re-established infrastructure and resumed victim targeting with LockBit 3.0. Subsequent activity included postings on its leak site that were assessed as including recycled, exaggerated, or fabricated victim claims, indicating both operational recovery efforts and attempts to preserve reputation and coercive leverage within the ransomware ecosystem. LockBit is a financially motivated actor centered on ransomware-based extortion and public leak-site operations. In 2024, the operation’s activity declined relative to prior levels due to law-enforcement action, and its leader, widely known as LockBitSupp, was publicly identified and sanctioned. The group is widely recognized for operating a mature ransomware program and for adapting quickly to disruption by rebuilding infrastructure and continuing extortion operations.
