Samas is a targeted eCrime ransomware operator known for compromising internet-facing services, particularly vulnerable JBoss deployments, to gain initial access into victim environments. After intrusion, the operators conduct hands-on lateral movement and deploy ransomware across multiple systems, distinguishing the group from opportunistic mass-spread ransomware campaigns. The actor’s tradecraft reflects targeted post-compromise operations focused on expanding access within a network before encryption. Samas is also referred to as Samas operators.
