Financially motivated cybercriminals exploiting the React2Shell vulnerability (CVE-2025-55182) are opportunistic threat actors focused on monetizing exposed React and related cloud-hosted workloads. Observed activity began in early December 2025 and centered on rapid exploitation of unauthenticated remote code execution to deploy cryptocurrency mining malware, establish persistent remote access, and in some cases conscript compromised systems into botnet operations. Reported tooling and malware associated with these campaigns includes XMRig for cryptomining, MeshCentral for remote management, PeerBlight for resilient backdoor access, and Kaiji variants associated with DDoS-capable botnet behavior and persistence. Their operations have targeted cloud environments and internet-exposed workloads running vulnerable React and related framework components. The dominant objective is financial gain rather than espionage or disruption for political purposes.
