FlexibleFerret is a macOS malware operation associated with North Korean threat activity and used in the Contagious Interview social-engineering campaign. The operation is designed for stealthy compromise and long-term persistence on Apple systems through a multi-stage infection chain. Reported tradecraft includes delivery of follow-on shell scripts, installation of persistence via LaunchAgent execution at user login, and use of decoy application prompts masquerading as legitimate browser permission requests to facilitate credential theft. The malware chain has been observed deploying the Go-based CDrivers backdoor, which supports system reconnaissance, shell command execution, file upload and download, extraction of browser profile data, and automated theft of credentials. The operation emphasizes resilience and reduced user disruption through error-handling logic and staged execution. FlexibleFerret is best understood as a DPRK-linked macOS-focused intrusion capability aligned with espionage-oriented social-engineering campaigns that abuse fake job or interview workflows to gain access to victim systems.
