G0129 is a Chinese state-sponsored threat actor also tracked as Bronze President, TEMP.Hex, and Hive0154. The group is associated with cyber-espionage activity focused on government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and think tanks, with observed targeting concentrated in Asia, including Myanmar and Thailand. G0129 has been linked to deployment of the ToneShell backdoor, including a more advanced kernel-mode variant designed to improve stealth, persistence, and defensive evasion. The actor’s operations demonstrate mature post-compromise tradecraft. Reported activity includes use of a malicious kernel-mode mini-filter driver functioning as a rootkit to hinder analysis and removal, interfere with security tooling, and support loading or injection of user-mode payloads. ToneShell provides remote administration capability and has been observed using obfuscated network communications disguised to resemble TLS traffic. The group’s tooling and techniques indicate emphasis on persistence, defense evasion, process injection, and post-exploitation access in support of intelligence collection objectives.
