Shamel is the threat actor associated with development of the Lumma information stealer, also known as LummaC2. The actor is linked to the malware-as-a-service ecosystem and is associated with a subscription-based stealer marketed on underground forums since 2022. Lumma is designed to harvest sensitive data from Windows systems, including browser-stored credentials, cookies, credit card data, connection history, cryptocurrency wallet data, and information from selected applications and browser extensions, including some related to two-factor authentication. Operations involving Lumma have relied on common criminal delivery mechanisms such as trojanized or fake software and phishing emails impersonating legitimate brands. The malware supports data theft and exfiltration from compromised hosts and has been observed communicating with command-and-control infrastructure over HTTP POST for stolen-data transfer. Its targeting includes web browsers, cryptocurrency wallets, and credential stores, enabling downstream fraud, account compromise, and crypto theft. Shamel is best characterized as a financially motivated cybercriminal actor operating in the infostealer and malware-as-a-service space rather than as a state-sponsored intrusion set. High-confidence reporting directly ties the actor to Lumma, but does not provide corroborated detail on broader sub-groups, organizational structure, or national origin.
