OGUsers is an online criminal community associated with the trafficking of rare or hijacked social media accounts and with social-engineering-driven account takeover activity. It has been linked to the 2020 compromise of high-profile Twitter accounts used to promote a cryptocurrency scam. In that incident, attackers used coordinated social engineering against Twitter employees to obtain access to internal administrative tools, enabling takeover of prominent accounts, posting of fraudulent cryptocurrency messages, and access to direct messages from a limited number of accounts. Activity associated with this milieu is characterized by social engineering, abuse of platform support or administrative workflows, account hijacking, and financially motivated fraud involving cryptocurrency. High-confidence reporting ties the community to credential and account abuse rather than to a nation-state mission set.
