Digital 8 is a criminal malware development group associated with the IcedID malware ecosystem. Ukrainian court documents have identified members of the group as IcedID developers, including individuals alleged to have developed and managed parts of the botnet infrastructure. The group appears to have operated as a larger collaborative cluster behind IcedID development rather than as a publicly branded intrusion set. IcedID has been widely used as a banking trojan and malware delivery platform, and actors tied to its development have been linked to maintaining botnet capabilities that support credential theft, persistence, post-compromise access, and follow-on criminal operations. Law-enforcement action connected to Operation Endgame disrupted IcedID infrastructure in 2024, and subsequent arrests in Ukraine tied two suspects to Digital 8. Available high-confidence reporting supports characterization of Digital 8 as a financially motivated cybercriminal group involved in malware development and operational support for IcedID.
