PRONTO is a North Korean government-backed threat group focused on phishing and credential-harvesting operations against diplomats worldwide. Its activity is associated with espionage-oriented targeting of diplomatic personnel and government-related users, including targets in Brazil. The group has used themed social-engineering lures related to North Korea policy issues, including denuclearization and North Korea news, to entice victims into interacting with phishing content. A characteristic tradecraft element is the use of a fake document-viewing interface, including a counterfeit PDF viewer, that prompts targets to enter credentials in order to access lure material. PRONTO’s observed operations are consistent with targeted credential theft against diplomatic accounts and broader reconnaissance and initial-access efforts in support of state interests.
