Infostealer operators are financially motivated cybercriminals involved in mass malware campaigns that steal credentials and other sensitive data from infected systems. In the FIFA World Cup 2026 fraud ecosystem, this activity was associated primarily with the Vidar and Lumma malware families and was reflected in large-scale circulation of compromised FIFA-related account data and approximately 130,000 infostealer logs containing FIFA references. Their role in the broader ecosystem is to obtain credentials and session-relevant data at scale, enabling downstream fraud, account abuse, and monetization through dark-web markets and related criminal channels. The observed activity aligns with commodity credential-theft operations rather than a distinct nation-state intrusion set.
