Gabagool is a phishing-as-a-service operation associated with QR-code phishing campaigns designed to harvest credentials. It has been observed using quishing techniques that embed malicious links in QR codes to redirect victims to fraudulent login pages, including Microsoft-themed password-reset lures. A notable tradecraft evolution attributed to Gabagool is the use of split QR codes, in which a QR code is divided across multiple images within a phishing email so automated scanners are more likely to interpret them as benign images rather than a scannable code. Reporting also links Gabagool activity to highly tailored phishing messages, with indications of possible prior conversation hijacking in at least some targeting. The available evidence supports credential-focused phishing and defense-evasion behavior, but does not establish ransomware activity or a confirmed national affiliation.
