CrimeAgency is a threat actor associated with a January 2016 campaign that compromised numerous internet-facing forums running unpatched vBulletin software. The actor conducted opportunistic intrusion activity against vulnerable web applications and extracted user account data from affected systems, including usernames, email addresses, and password material. Reported activity indicates broad targeting of exposed and unpatched forum infrastructure rather than a narrowly defined victim set. Based on the confirmed activity, CrimeAgency demonstrated initial access through exploitation of vulnerable public-facing applications, post-compromise data theft, and subsequent distribution of stolen information. Publicly supported information about the actor is limited, and no high-confidence attribution to a nation state, criminal organization structure, or broader intrusion set is currently available.
