Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also known as the Pakistani Taliban, is a Sunni jihadist militant organization primarily active against Pakistan. Its operational activity is concentrated in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region, and it has maintained a presence in Afghanistan. United Nations reporting has assessed that the Afghan Taliban continued to support the TTP and relocated approximately 2,000 TTP fighters and family members farther into Afghanistan’s interior. TTP has affiliates and allies active in the Afghanistan-Pakistan border region; Ittihadul Mujahideen Pakistan, an alliance led by the Hafiz Gul Bahadar group, has close linkages to TTP. The group has also been described as allied with the Baloch Liberation Army. TTP-related militant activity contributes to Pakistan’s broader insurgent threat environment, including attacks against security forces and other targets.
