xorcat is a threat actor persona associated with the public release of allegedly stolen user data from Canva, an Australian design platform. The actor was observed publishing a database advertised as containing approximately 900,000 user records and making it freely available to registered members of an open web forum. Reported exposed fields included account identity data, authentication-provider information, password hashes, account timestamps, and platform usage metadata. Available reporting supports characterization of xorcat as a data-leak actor engaged in unauthorized acquisition and publication of structured user information. The activity is consistent with initial access against an internet-facing application, theft of data from information repositories, extraction of credential material in hashed form, and exfiltration or dissemination through web services. The leaked information could enable downstream phishing, social engineering, credential-stuffing, and targeted password-cracking attempts against weak or reused passwords. Metadata related to account activity and organizational usage could also help identify higher-value or enterprise-linked users. At high confidence, xorcat is linked to data theft and public exposure of stolen information. There is insufficient corroborated information to attribute the actor to a nation state, identify a country of origin, establish a broader intrusion set, or confirm additional aliases, sub-groups, or long-term operational history.
