UNC6863 is a suspected China-nexus cyber-espionage threat actor tracked by Google Threat Intelligence Group for a 2026 compromise of DAEMON Tools installers. The operation used the compromised software distribution channel to deploy SLICKDEMON for broad reconnaissance and identification of targets of strategic interest. Following target profiling, UNC6863 selectively deployed the BADFALL shellcoded loader, which supported interactive operator activity and deployment of QUIC RAT. The campaign targeted organizations in Russia, Brazil, and Turkey and resulted in follow-on exploitation affecting government and scientific entities in Belarus and Thailand. UNC6863 has not been conclusively established as the same actor as Microsoft's Storm-3069, despite both being associated with activity involving the DAEMON Tools compromise.
