XScreen is an Objective-C macOS surveillance implant and keylogger observed in a June 2025 intrusion investigated by Huntress and attributed with high confidence to the North Korean threat group TA444 / BlueNoroff (also tracked as Sapphire Sleet, COPERNICIUM, STARDUST CHOLLIMA, and CageyChameleon). In that campaign, a cryptocurrency foundation employee was socially engineered via Telegram, a Calendly lure, and a fake Zoom meeting featuring deepfake participants into downloading a malicious AppleScript disguised as a Zoom extension. XScreen was one of eight malicious binaries recovered from the victim host. Its capabilities include keystroke logging, clipboard monitoring, and screen capture. Reported implementation details state that it uses Core Graphics EventTapCreate for keylogging, CGDisplayCreateImage for screen capture, and monitors the macOS pasteboard for clipboard theft. XScreen defaulted to the C2 URL https://metamask[.]awaitingfor[.]site/update and could also read a C2 URL from /Users/Shared/._cfg. The recovered binary was named keyboardd, was compiled in Objective-C by user "pooh," and Huntress reported SHA256 432c720a9ada40785d77cd7e5798de8d43793f6da31c5e7b3b22ee0a451bb249. High-confidence associated infrastructure includes metamask[.]awaitingfor[.]site. The malware was deployed as part of a broader BlueNoroff macOS intrusion set targeting cryptocurrency organizations.
