WARPRISM is a PowerShell dropper observed by Mandiant in UNC2447 intrusions between November 2020 and February 2021. It has been used to install or deliver SUNCRYPT, Cobalt Strike BEACON, and MIMIKATZ, and it loads payloads directly into memory to evade endpoint detection. Mandiant created the UNC2447 cluster after observing WARPRISM used to install BEACON at two Managed Defense clients in November 2020, and later forensically linked the same WARPRISM and BEACON samples to intrusions involving SOMBRAT and FIVEHANDS ransomware. The broader activity was associated with exploitation of SonicWall SMA 100 series devices via CVE-2021-20016 and targeted organizations in Europe and North America. Mandiant noted that WARPRISM may be used by multiple groups.
