Socksbot is a Windows malware implant with remote-access and proxying functionality. Observed capabilities include launching SOCKS proxy threads to relay traffic through a compromised host, taking screenshots for operator surveillance, enumerating running processes for host discovery, and writing and executing PowerShell scripts for follow-on tasking. It also uses process injection by creating a suspended svchost process and injecting a DLL into it, indicating an emphasis on stealth and in-memory execution. The combination of proxying, host reconnaissance, screen capture, script execution, and injection behavior is consistent with post-compromise backdoor activity used to maintain access, support operator-controlled actions, and facilitate covert communications or pivoting through victim systems.

The content repeatedly describes threat actors and malware using PowerShell to execute payloads, run commands, download additional malware, perform lateral movement, evade defenses, and execute scripts in memory. | Examples include: 'APT28 downloads and executes PowerShell scripts and performs PowerShell commands'; 'APT3 has used PowerShell on victim systems to download and run payloads after exploitation'; 'TA505 has used PowerShell to download and execute malware and reconnaissance scripts.'
