SmarterTools released SmarterMail Build 9511 to address multiple security issues, including a critical unauthenticated RCE in the ConnectToHub API method tracked as CVE-2026-24423 (CVSS 9.3). The flaw allows an attacker to direct SmarterMail to an attacker-controlled HTTP server that returns a malicious OS command, which the application then executes. The Shadowserver Foundation reported the largest concentrations of exposed legacy deployments in China, followed by Brazil, the U.S., Japan, and Mexico, and urged organizations to audit for exposed telnet services (commonly 23/TCP), disable telnetd, enforce firewall restrictions, and migrate to SSH to reduce exposure.
