Apache disclosed CVE-2026-35337, an important-severity remote code execution flaw in org.apache.storm:storm-client caused by unsafe deserialization of Kerberos ticket data. The vulnerability affects Apache Storm versions before 2.8.6 and is triggered when Nimbus processes topology credentials submitted through the Nimbus Thrift API, deserializing a base64-encoded Kerberos TGT blob with ObjectInputStream.readObject() without class filtering or validation. An authenticated user with topology submission rights can abuse the vulnerable TGT credential field to execute malicious code.
Successful exploitation can result in code execution in both Nimbus and Worker JVMs. The issue is tracked as CWE-502 and carries a CVSS v3.1 vector of AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H. Apache credited the finding to a researcher identified as K and advised users to upgrade to Apache Storm 2.8.6; organizations unable to patch immediately were told to apply an ObjectInputFilter allow-list to ClientAuthUtils.deserializeKerberosTicket() as a temporary mitigation.

On April 12, 2026, Richard Zowalla announced CVE-2026-35337 on the oss-security mailing list, describing it as an important-severity remote code execution issue in Apache Storm Client. The disclosure detailed the affected component, exploitation path through topology credentials, and the recommended remediation.
Apache addressed the vulnerability by releasing Apache Storm version 2.8.6 for affected storm-client versions prior to 2.8.6. As a mitigation for users unable to upgrade immediately, Apache recommended applying an ObjectInputFilter allow-list to ClientAuthUtils.deserializeKerberosTicket().
A researcher identified as K reported a vulnerability in Apache Storm Client involving unsafe deserialization of a Kerberos TGT blob processed through the Nimbus Thrift API. The flaw allows an authenticated user with topology submission rights to supply a malicious serialized object and potentially achieve remote code execution in Nimbus and Worker JVMs.
