Comtrend VR-3033 routers running firmware DE11-416SSG-C01_R02.A2pvI042j1.d26m were found to contain multiple authenticated command injection flaws in the web administration interface’s diagnostic ping and traceroute functions. The issue, tracked as CVE-2020-10173, allows a user with valid access to the router interface to inject shell metacharacters through the pingIpAddress parameter handled by ping.cgi, leading to arbitrary command execution on the device.
A public proof of concept demonstrated the bug by sending a crafted request that appended shell commands and returned directory listings from the router, confirming remote command execution through the diagnostics page. The disclosure identified bootloader version 1.0.38-116.228-1, noted that similar weaknesses may affect other Comtrend models, and said the researcher reported the issue to the vendor before publishing after receiving no response.
