Switch 2 Software-Only Jailbreak Chains SmileBASIC and Filesystem Flaws

Researcher Sammy Hajhamid, known as pepsipu, reportedly published ns2jb, a software-only Nintendo Switch 2 jailbreak affecting retail consoles running firmware 23.0.1. The exploit chains an integer overflow in the BASIC interpreter of SmileBASIC 4, a backward-compatible Switch title, with a buffer overflow in the console’s filesystem system module. The chain escapes the application sandbox and enables native code execution with system-module permissions, alongside code dumping and IPC handle manipulation.
Reported capabilities include unsigned homebrew execution, save-data backup and restoration, modified game executables, and memory-mapped I/O access. Despite being described as a full software-only jailbreak, it does not compromise the secure boot chain or support pirated game-backup execution. The method is tethered, requiring a connected computer to reapply it after every reboot, and both vulnerabilities are software-patchable. Owners connecting modified consoles to Nintendo’s network could face enforcement under its updated user agreement.
