ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation can cause a denial of service (application crash). Depending on the memory state and exploitation technique, it may be possible to achieve code execution, though the description only confirms a crash due to a free of valid memory.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Avoid opening untrusted PDF files, especially those containing embedded 3D content, until the plugin is updated. Employ endpoint protection solutions to detect and block malicious PDFs.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade to Foxit 3D Plugin Beta version 9.4.0.16807 or later, as the issue is resolved in this version.
