DoS in Rockwell Automation ArmorStart LT via Achilles Comprehensive grammar tests (unexpected reboot)

IdentifiersCVE-2025-9465CWE-400· Uncontrolled Resource Consumption

CVE-2025-9465 is a denial-of-service vulnerability in Rockwell Automation ArmorStart® LT devices where execution of the Achilles Comprehensive grammar tests can trigger an unexpected device reboot. The reboot causes a temporary outage of the Link State Monitor for several seconds, resulting in loss of availability for monitoring/communications during the reboot window. The weakness is classified as uncontrolled resource consumption (CWE-400). Affected ArmorStart LT models include 290D/291D/294D running versions up to and including V2.002.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Remote attackers can cause a denial-of-service condition by inducing an unexpected reboot of the ArmorStart LT device, temporarily taking the Link State Monitor down for several seconds and disrupting availability of the device’s network monitoring/operations. CVSS v3.1 is reported as 7.5 (AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H), indicating high availability impact with no confidentiality/integrity impact.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Per CISA ICS guidance referenced with this issue: minimize network exposure of control system devices, ensure they are not internet-accessible, place control networks/remote devices behind firewalls and isolate them from business networks, and use secure remote access methods (e.g., VPN) with current updates. Perform impact analysis and risk assessment prior to deploying changes.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Apply Rockwell Automation’s guidance/updates as provided in security advisory SD1768 for ArmorStart LT (290D/291D/294D) and upgrade to a fixed version if/when made available by the vendor. (Specific fixed version information is not present in the provided content.)
