Authorization bypass in Dify file preview endpoint

IdentifiersCVE-2026-41949CWE-639· Authorization Bypass Through…

CVE-2026-41949 is an authorization bypass vulnerability affecting Dify before version 1.14.2, including version 1.14.1 and earlier. The flaw exists in the file preview endpoint at /console/api/files/{file_id}/preview. The endpoint verifies that the referenced object is a document but does not properly enforce ownership, tenant, or workspace authorization checks before returning preview data. As a result, any authenticated user who knows or can obtain a valid file UUID can request preview content for documents uploaded by other users, workspaces, or tenants. The exposed response is limited to approximately 3,000 characters of the target document, but this is sufficient to disclose sensitive content from otherwise inaccessible files.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation results in unauthorized disclosure of document contents across tenant and workspace boundaries. An attacker can read preview text from uploaded documents belonging to other users or customers without having legitimate access to those files. In multi-tenant deployments, this creates cross-tenant data exposure and can leak sensitive business information, internal documents, or regulated content. The issue is confidentiality-focused; the provided material does not indicate direct integrity or availability impact from this CVE.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Until patching is completed, restrict access to /console/api/files/{file_id}/preview using reverse-proxy controls, WAF rules, or network-layer filtering. Reduce exposure by limiting who can create console accounts, especially in environments where self-registration is enabled. Monitor for anomalous or high-volume requests to file preview endpoints, investigate access patterns involving UUID enumeration or reuse, and minimize sensitive document exposure in affected instances until remediation is deployed.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade Dify to version 1.14.2 or later, which addresses CVE-2026-41949. If immediate upgrade is not possible, apply the vendor patch associated with the fix and verify that the file preview endpoint enforces file ownership, tenant isolation, and workspace permission checks before returning any preview content.
