Sandbox escape in Google Chrome ANGLE

IdentifiersCVE-2026-10881CWE-787· Out-of-bounds Write

CVE-2026-10881 is a critical memory corruption vulnerability in ANGLE, the graphics abstraction layer used by Google Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers. The issue is described as an out-of-bounds read and write affecting Google Chrome prior to 149.0.7827.53. A remote attacker can trigger the flaw via a crafted HTML page, causing invalid memory access within ANGLE. Available reporting indicates the vulnerability can be leveraged to potentially escape the browser sandbox. Publicly available content does not identify the specific vulnerable function or code path beyond ANGLE.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation can give a remote attacker memory corruption primitives in the browser’s graphics processing path and potentially enable a sandbox escape from a crafted web page. This could allow code execution outside the intended browser sandbox boundary on the host system, materially increasing the severity beyond a renderer compromise alone. The issue is rated critical in Chromium reporting, and external reporting cites a CVSS score of 9.6.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Apply the vendor updates as soon as possible. Until patching is complete, reduce exposure by limiting use of untrusted websites and web content, especially content that may exercise GPU/graphics paths. In enterprise environments, prioritize rapid browser update deployment and version verification on internet-exposed user workstations.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade Google Chrome to version 149.0.7827.53 or later. For Chromium-based Microsoft Edge, upgrade to version 149.0.4022.52 or later, which incorporates the Chromium fix. Verify that browser auto-update has completed successfully across managed endpoints.
