Adobe Acrobat Reader Multimedia Rendition Use-After-Free Remote Code Execution

IdentifiersCVE-2026-47913CWE-416· Use After Free

CVE-2026-47913 is a use-after-free vulnerability in Adobe Acrobat Reader affecting versions 24.001.30365, 26.001.21651, and earlier. The flaw exists in the handling of Multimedia Rendition objects, where the application performs operations on an object without properly validating that the object still exists. A remote attacker can craft a malicious file, and available reporting also indicates exploitation may be triggered by visiting a malicious page. If the target opens the malicious file or otherwise triggers the vulnerable content, the condition can be abused to achieve arbitrary code execution in the context of the current user/process.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation can result in arbitrary code execution in the security context of the current user. This gives an attacker the ability to run attacker-controlled code with the victim's privileges, which can lead to compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected system and any data accessible to that user.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Until patches are fully deployed, reduce exposure by preventing users from opening untrusted PDF or other attacker-supplied files and avoiding visits to untrusted pages that may deliver malicious content targeting Acrobat Reader. Use least-privilege user accounts where possible, and apply file-origin controls, email/web filtering, and application isolation to limit exploitation opportunities. User interaction is required, so awareness and attachment-handling restrictions can reduce risk but do not replace patching.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Apply Adobe's security update addressing CVE-2026-47913. Upgrade Adobe Acrobat Reader to a fixed version newer than 24.001.30365 and 26.001.21651, as referenced by Adobe security bulletin APSB26-63.
