Heap-based Buffer Overflow RCE in Adobe USD-Fileformat-plugins usdGltf Plugin

IdentifiersCVE-2026-48292CWE-122· Heap-based Buffer Overflow

CVE-2026-48292 is a heap-based buffer overflow in Adobe USD-Fileformat-plugins, affecting Format Plugins version 1.1.2 and earlier. The flaw is present in the usdGltf plugin and is caused by improper validation of the length of user-supplied data before copying that data into a heap-based buffer. A remote attacker can trigger the vulnerability by supplying a malicious file that is subsequently opened and processed by the vulnerable plugin. Successful exploitation can lead to arbitrary code execution in the context of the current process or current user.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation allows arbitrary code execution in the context of the current user/process. Given the nature of the memory corruption, this can result in compromise of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected system within that security context.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Until the vendor update is applied, avoid opening untrusted or attacker-supplied files with affected Adobe USD-Fileformat-plugins installations. Limit exposure by restricting processing of externally sourced USD/glTF-related content in workflows that invoke the vulnerable usdGltf plugin.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Apply Adobe's security update addressing CVE-2026-48292. Adobe issued a fix and published remediation guidance in security bulletin APSB26-65. Systems running Format Plugins 1.1.2 or earlier should be upgraded to a fixed version newer than 1.1.2.
