CVE-1999-0668 is an Internet Explorer/Outlook Express vulnerability where the Scriptlet.Typelib ActiveX control is marked as “safe for scripting,” allowing untrusted web/HTML content to instantiate and drive the control without appropriate user consent. As demonstrated by Bubbleboy and later abused by the KAK worm, an attacker can deliver HTML (including via Outlook Express’ IE-based HTML email rendering/preview) that leverages Scriptlet.Typelib to create/write attacker-controlled files (e.g., an .HTA dropped into the Windows Startup folder) and thereby achieve execution of arbitrary commands/code in the context of the user.
