CVE-1999-0787 is a local privilege escalation issue in SSH for Unix involving the SSH authentication agent (ssh-agent) following symbolic links when interacting with a UNIX domain socket. By leveraging symlink following via the agent’s UNIX domain socket and improper permission/ownership checking, a local attacker can cause ssh-agent/SSH to associate with or use an attacker-controlled socket/path, enabling the attacker to establish SSH sessions as another local user without authenticating as that user.
