CVE-2001-0506 is a buffer overflow in IIS Server-Side Includes (SSI) processing within ssinc.dll on IIS 4.0 and IIS 5.0. A local attacker can trigger the overflow by using an SSI directive that references an overly long filename; when IIS appends the directory name to the long filename during SSI processing, the resulting path overflows a buffer. Successful exploitation can result in arbitrary code execution and/or elevation of privilege (commonly described as gaining SYSTEM/LocalSystem privileges in affected configurations).
