CVE-2002-0862 is an improper certificate-validation vulnerability in Microsoft CryptoAPI. CertGetCertificateChain, CertVerifyCertificateChainPolicy, and WinVerifyTrust did not correctly verify the X.509 Basic Constraints extension on intermediate CA-signed certificates. Consequently, applications relying on these APIs could accept a certificate chain that improperly treated a non-CA certificate as capable of issuing certificates. Affected products include Windows 98 through Windows XP, Office for Mac, Internet Explorer for Mac, and Outlook Express for Mac.
