CVE-2004-0575 is an integer overflow vulnerability in DUNZIP32.DLL, the component used by Windows “Compressed (zipped) Folders”, affecting Microsoft Windows XP (including 64-bit Edition) and Windows Server 2003 (including 64-bit Edition). When processing specially crafted ZIP archives, the code performs improper length validation (described as an “unchecked buffer”), leading to an integer overflow and subsequent memory corruption. A remote attacker can leverage this by supplying a malicious ZIP file such that, when it is handled by the vulnerable ZIP folder functionality, arbitrary code execution can occur in the context of the user processing the archive.
