In Mozilla Firefox 1.0.3, the install function exposed via InstallTrigger.install() can be abused by remote web sites that are present on the XPInstall/installation whitelist (e.g., update.mozilla.org or addon.mozilla.org) to execute attacker-controlled JavaScript with chrome privileges. The issue can be triggered by supplying a javascript: URL as the package icon (IconURL parameter), and can be practically exploited when combined with a separate weakness such as an XSS on a whitelisted site (as described in the CVE text). Executing script with chrome privileges breaks the browser security model and can lead to arbitrary code execution on the host when chained with additional vulnerabilities (e.g., CVE-2005-1476).
