CVE-2005-1921 is an eval injection vulnerability in PEAR XML_RPC 1.3.0 and earlier and PHPXMLRPC 1.1 and earlier. The affected XML-RPC implementations fail to sanitize XML-derived input before incorporating it into a PHP eval statement. A remote attacker can submit crafted XML containing injected PHP syntax, causing the vulnerable web application to evaluate attacker-controlled PHP code. Applications bundling or using the affected libraries, including deployments of WordPress, Drupal, Serendipity, eGroupWare, and other PHP applications, may be affected.

This repository contains a single Metasploit module: 'php_xmlrpc_eval.rb', which exploits an arbitrary code execution vulnerability (CVE-2005-1921) in the PHP XML-RPC module. The exploit targets web applications (such as Drupal, WordPress, Postnuke, and TikiWiki) that use a vulnerable version of the XML-RPC implementation. The module sends a specially crafted XML-RPC request to the target's xmlrpc.php endpoint, injecting PHP code that executes arbitrary shell commands via the passthru() function. The payload is customizable and can be any shell command, making this a weaponized exploit. The module includes a check method to verify vulnerability and an exploit method to deliver the payload. The only fingerprintable endpoint is the path to the xmlrpc.php file, which defaults to '/xmlrpc.php' but can be configured. The code is written in Ruby and is designed to be used within the Metasploit framework.
