CVE-2006-0005 is a buffer overflow in the plug-in for Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 and 10 when the plug-in is used in browsers other than Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player is configured as the default handler for media files. The flaw can be triggered by a malicious HTML page containing an EMBED element with an overly long src attribute. Processing of the long src value by the WMP browser plug-in can overflow a buffer, allowing attacker-controlled memory corruption and potential arbitrary code execution in the context of the affected browser process.
