CVE-2006-4777 is a heap-based buffer overflow in the DirectAnimation Path Control ActiveX/COM object (DirectAnimation.PathControl, implemented in daxctle.ocx) used by Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1. The flaw is triggered via crafted arguments to the KeyFrame method. Available technical analysis indicates the bug is likely rooted in an integer overflow during size calculation for allocations derived from the npoints argument, causing an undersized heap allocation followed by out-of-bounds access during subsequent processing/cleanup. Public exploitation research describes invoking KeyFrame with a very large npoints value (for example, greater than 0x07ffffff) to induce the faulty allocation behavior. The vulnerability affects Chinese and possibly other Windows distributions and is distinct from CVE-2006-4446.

This repository contains a single Metasploit module: 'ms06_067_keyframe.rb', which exploits a heap buffer overflow vulnerability (CVE-2006-4777) in the KeyFrame method of the DirectAnimation.PathControl ActiveX control in Microsoft Internet Explorer. The exploit is implemented as a malicious HTTP server that serves a specially crafted HTML page with obfuscated JavaScript. When a vulnerable client visits the page, the JavaScript performs a heap spray and triggers the overflow, allowing arbitrary code execution via shellcode provided by the Metasploit payload system. The module targets Windows 2000, XP, and 2003 systems running Internet Explorer 6.0 with the vulnerable ActiveX control enabled. The exploit is operational and allows the attacker to execute arbitrary code on the victim's machine. The repository is structured as a typical Metasploit exploit module, written in Ruby, and leverages the Metasploit framework's payload and handler mechanisms.

An integer overflow in the DirectAnimation.PathControl ActiveX control’s KeyFrame() method (in DAXCTLE.OCX / CPathCtl::KeyFrame) that causes undersized heap allocations followed by out-of-bounds access during cleanup, enabling attacker-controlled virtual function calls and code execution in Internet Explorer.
Heap-based buffer overflow in the Internet Explorer DirectAnimation Path Control ActiveX/COM object (daxctle.ocx) that can enable remote code execution via crafted arguments to the KeyFrame method.
