CVE-2006-5198 affects the WZFILEVIEW.FileViewCtrl.61 ActiveX control (Sky Software "FileView" ActiveX control) shipped with WinZip 10.0 before build 7245. The control exposes unsafe methods while being marked safe for scripting and initialization, allowing untrusted web content to invoke dangerous functionality through Internet Explorer. By luring a user to a specially crafted HTML page, a remote attacker can abuse these unsafe methods to perform unauthorized actions and achieve arbitrary code execution in the context of the logged-in user.

This repository contains a single Metasploit module (winzip_fileview.rb) that exploits a buffer overflow vulnerability in the WinZip FileView ActiveX control (WZFILEVIEW.FileViewCtrl.61), identified by CLSID A09AE68F-B14D-43ED-B713-BA413F034904. The exploit targets Windows XP systems running Internet Explorer 6 or 7 with a vulnerable version of WinZip (10.0 <= Build 6667). The module sets up a malicious HTTP server that serves a specially crafted HTML page. When a victim visits this page, JavaScript code instantiates the vulnerable ActiveX control and triggers the CreateNewFolderFromName method with a heap-sprayed payload, resulting in arbitrary code execution. The payload is customizable via Metasploit's payload options. The exploit is operational and can be used to gain code execution on affected systems. The only fingerprintable endpoint is the HTTP server delivering the exploit and the specific ActiveX CLSID targeted.
