KsIRC 1.3.12 improperly handles an overly long IRC PRIVMSG string received while connecting to an IRC server. The crafted message reaches an assertion failure that subsequently results in a NULL-pointer dereference, crashing the client. Although initially reported as a buffer overflow, the documented failure mechanism is a reachable assertion and NULL-pointer dereference.
