CVE-2006-7079 is a vulnerability in include/common.php in exV2 2.0.4.3 and earlier caused by unsafe variable extraction used for register_globals compatibility. Remote attackers can overwrite arbitrary program variables through crafted input, including modification of the xoopsOption pagetype variable. By controlling that variable, an attacker can trigger directory traversal during file inclusion or path resolution, which can lead to execution of arbitrary code. The issue is fundamentally an externally influenced variable overwrite that becomes exploitable through path traversal in application logic.
