CVE-2007-0169 is a set of multiple stack-based buffer overflow vulnerabilities in Computer Associates (CA) BrightStor ARCserve Backup versions 9.01 through 11.5, Enterprise Backup 10.5, and CA Server/Business Protection Suite r2. The flaws are reachable via crafted RPC requests sent to exposed backup services. Specifically, the vulnerable attack surface includes opnums 0x2F and 0x75 in the Message Engine RPC service and opnum 0xCF in the Tape Engine service. By supplying malformed data in these RPC calls, a remote attacker can trigger memory corruption and potentially gain control of execution flow.

This repository contains a single Metasploit module targeting a buffer overflow vulnerability (CVE-2007-0169) in the Message Engine component of Computer Associates BrightStor ARCserve Backup versions 11.1, 11.5, and 11.5 SP2 on Windows. The exploit works by sending a specially crafted DCERPC request to the service listening on TCP port 6503, overflowing a buffer and allowing execution of arbitrary code. The module allows the attacker to select a payload (up to 600 bytes, avoiding certain bad characters) which will be executed with the privileges of the BrightStor service. The exploit is operational and can be used to gain remote code execution on vulnerable systems. The only file in the repository is a Ruby script structured as a standard Metasploit exploit module, making use of the Metasploit DCERPC library to interact with the target service.
