CVE-2007-1689 is a stack-based buffer overflow in the ISAlertDataCOM ActiveX control implemented in ISLALERT.DLL, shipped with Symantec Norton Personal Firewall 2004 and Norton Internet Security 2004. The control’s Get and Set methods do not properly bound-check attacker-supplied arguments; passing overly long arguments triggers a stack buffer overflow, enabling memory corruption and potential arbitrary code execution in the context of the hosting process (typically Internet Explorer) when invoked from a crafted web page/HTML content.

This repository contains a single Metasploit module (nis2004_get.rb) that exploits a stack buffer overflow vulnerability in the ISAlertDataCOM ActiveX Control (ISLAert.dll) used by Symantec Norton Internet Security 2004. The exploit targets users running Internet Explorer on Windows XP SP0/SP1 Pro English or Windows 2000 Pro English. When a victim visits a malicious web page served by the attacker, the exploit delivers a specially crafted string to the vulnerable 'Get()' method of the ActiveX control, triggering a buffer overflow and allowing execution of arbitrary code (Metasploit payloads up to 800 bytes). The module is operational and allows for payload customization within the Metasploit framework. The main fingerprintable endpoints are the ActiveX CLSID (BE39AEFD-5704-4BB5-B1DF-B7992454AB7E) and the ISLAert.dll file. The repository is structured as a typical Metasploit exploit module, written in Ruby, and is intended for use within the Metasploit framework.
