A directory traversal vulnerability exists in the SCANCTRL.ScanCtrlCtrl.1 ActiveX control (scan.dll) used by Nessus Vulnerability Scanner 3.0.6. The vulnerability is due to improper sanitization of input to the saveNessusRC method, which allows remote attackers to specify arbitrary file paths (including those with '..' sequences) and write arbitrary text (provided via addsetConfig) to those files. This can be exploited to create or overwrite files in arbitrary locations on the system, including sensitive directories such as the Startup folder, potentially leading to code execution.
