CVE-2007-5607 is a buffer overflow vulnerability in the RegistryString function exposed by the HPISDataManagerLib.Datamgr ActiveX control implemented in HPISDataManager.dll, as shipped with HP Instant Support before version 1.0.0.24. The flaw is triggered by supplying an overly long first argument to the RegistryString method, causing memory corruption. Because the vulnerable component is an ActiveX control intended for use in Internet Explorer, a remote attacker can deliver the malicious input through a crafted web page that instantiates the control. Successful exploitation can result in arbitrary code execution. The issue is distinct from the related HP Instant Support vulnerabilities CVE-2007-5604, CVE-2007-5605, and CVE-2007-5606.
