CVE-2007-5755 is a vulnerability in the AOL AmpX ActiveX control, implemented in AmpX.dll version 2.6.1.11 and used by AOL Radio. The issue consists of multiple stack-based buffer overflows triggered by supplying overly long arguments to unspecified exposed methods of the ActiveX control. Because the vulnerable component is an ActiveX control intended to be invoked from web content or other COM-capable contexts, a remote attacker can deliver crafted input to the control and corrupt stack memory, potentially redirecting execution flow and achieving arbitrary code execution in the context of the affected user.

This repository contains a single Metasploit module (aol_ampx_convertfile.rb) that exploits a stack-based buffer overflow in the ConvertFile() method of the AOL IWinAmpActiveX (AmpX.dll) ActiveX control, version 2.4.0.6. The exploit targets users running vulnerable versions of Windows (XP SP0-SP3, Vista SP0-SP1) and Internet Explorer (6.0, 7.0) with the vulnerable ActiveX control installed, typically via the AOL Radio website. The module sets up a malicious HTTP server that serves a crafted HTML page containing JavaScript. When a victim visits this page, the script instantiates the vulnerable ActiveX control using its CLSID and triggers the buffer overflow by passing an overly long string to the ConvertFile() method, resulting in arbitrary code execution. The payload is customizable and delivered as shellcode via JavaScript. The main fingerprintable endpoint is the CLSID of the vulnerable control (FE0BD779-44EE-4A4B-AA2E-743C63F2E5E6) and the AmpX.dll file. The exploit is operational and can be used to gain code execution on affected systems.
