CVE-2008-0062 is an improper-initialization vulnerability in the MIT Kerberos 5 Key Distribution Center (KDC) Kerberos 4 compatibility-message handling. A global pointer to the reply message is initialized only for two recognized Kerberos 4 message types but can subsequently be referenced and freed for other message types. A malformed message with an unsupported type can therefore cause use of a NULL pointer when no prior Kerberos 4 request established the pointer, or use of a stale pointer from a prior request. The resulting condition can produce a NULL-pointer dereference, double-free, memory disclosure, or heap corruption. MIT Kerberos 5 1.6.3 and likely earlier releases are affected when Kerberos 4 support is compiled in and enabled.

A vulnerability in the MIT Kerberos 5 KDC (krb5kdc) where certain krb4 message types fail to set a global variable, enabling remote denial of service and possibly arbitrary code execution via NULL pointer dereference or double-free conditions.
A CVE cited as an observed example related to CWE-825 where an unknown message type can trigger uninitialized memory use leading to a null pointer dereference or dangling pointer, causing crashes or heap corruption.
A CVE cited as an observed example of a chain that can result in a dangling pointer condition associated with CWE-825.
